The Battlefords North Stars are looking for their fourth straight win when they host the Weyburn Red Wings tonight.

The North Stars, who sit first in the Nutrien Division, are coming off a thrilling 6-5 win against the Nipawin Hawks to move into fourth place in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). With a win tonight against Weyburn, the North Stars would move ahead of Nipawin into third place in the league.

In the 6-5 win against the Hawks, the North Stars came back from a three-goal deficit; Josh Knittig scored the game-winner shorthanded with just 12 seconds left in the period.

The Red Wings, who sit first in the Bunge Division with a record of 21-9-1-1(wins-losses-overtime losses-shootout losses), are trying to win their second straight game after beating the Estevan Bruins 3-1 on Jan. 4. Callas Pierce had a pair of goals in that contest.

The North Stars and Red Wings met twice in early December. On Dec. 6, the North Stars got the better of the Red Wings with a score of 5-3 after they netted three goals in the third period. The very next day, the Red Wings took down the North Stars 5-2, led by two-goal performances from Luke Dekay and Callas Pierce.

The North Stars are playing some of their best hockey of the season as of late. Their record is currently at 18-8-2-2. They have won 11 of their last 15 games.

On top of that, all the league’s longest current player streaks are all held by North Stars players. Carter Geysen is on a four-game goal streak, which leads the league, and Josh Knittig is on a league-high seven-game point and assist streak.

The second-place Red Wings have won nine of their last fifteen contests. They have been led on the scoresheet this year by Josh Sale, who has 34 points (14G-20A) in 30 games this season. Callas Pierce and Lucas Schmid are next up with 29 points each.

There were no changes in the top three scorers on the North Stars side after the last game. Anthony Campbell’s three-point performance brought him up to 30 points in the season (10G-20A). Josh Knittig has 28 points (9G-19A) and Gavin Granger has 26 (5G-21A).

The North Stars could get their fourth straight victory tonight. The Ultra Print pregame show starts at 7:00 p.m. Saskatchewan time, while the puck drops for Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on CJNB/CJNS.

The North Stars will face off against the Red Wings again Friday night and will match up against the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday.
