It IS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN

Done with the holidays? City offers free Christmas tree drop-off through January

Jan 5, 2026 | 11:45 AM

For residents ready to officially say goodbye to the holidays, the City of North Battleford is once again offering a free and safe way to dispose of natural Christmas trees.

The city’s annual Christmas tree drop-off program began Dec. 27 and runs through Jan. 31, allowing residents to drop off their trees at no cost, provided all decorations are removed beforehand.

Trees can be dropped off during regular business hours at two locations: the City Parks Shop at 11202 8th Ave. and the Waste Management Facility.

The Waste Management Facility is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no entry permitted after 4:45 p.m.

Assistant director of operations Jeff Blanchard said the program is designed to make post-holiday cleanup easier for residents.

“Just as a way for the community to have an easy and affordable way to dispose of their Christmas trees,” Blanchard said.

He added residents are required to remove all decorations before dropping off their trees and that the initiative also helps discourage unsafe disposal methods, including illegal dumping or potentially unsafe backyard fires.

The city does not recycle or chip the trees due to budget limitations. Instead, the trees are stockpiled and later disposed of through a controlled burning program.

“So we just put them in our tree piles and we have a burning program that happens once or twice a year,” he said.

The Christmas tree drop-off program is offered annually and is free for residents.
