Battlefords North Stars acquire defenceman Alex Coventry from Bonnyville Pontiacs
The Battlefords North Stars have added some size to their blue line, bringing in 6-7 right-handed defenceman Alex Coventry from the Bonnyville Pontiacs in exchange for the CJHL rights to Sebastian Miles and a player development fee. The trade comes after Miles signed with the BCHL’s Nanaimo Clippers over the Christmas break.
Other than affiliate player Millar Kramer, Coventry joins Gavin Granger as the only right-handed defencemen on the active roster. North Stars head coach Connor Logan spoke about Coventry after saying they did a “thorough evaluation” of the defensive corps and what they need.
“Alex obviously has a big frame, a lot of experience…he moves pucks well, has a good stick. All the experience that he’s had and the places he’s played gives him a really strong foundation for how to play the game,” Logan said. “I think his simplicity is going to just flourish the way that we want to approach the second half in defending.”
Logan also said that Coventry is a “good kid”, something that they value when bringing in players. In turn, Coventry has been happy so far with Logan’s coaching.
