North Stars score three in the third, win wild matchup 5-3 vs Weyburn Red Wings
In a similar game to the night prior against the Estevan Bruins, the Battlefords North Stars (14-6-2-2, 2nd in Nutrien Division) took down the Weyburn Red Wings (16-7-1-1, 1st in Bunge Division) 5-3 after going into the third period with a lead then weathering the storm in the final frame.
The North Stars got on the board in the first few minutes of the game. On the power play, Anthony Campbell found Finlay Klippenstein out in front to make it 1-0. The tally was Klippenstein’s team leading 12th of the year and 11th in as many games.
North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb was incredibly pleased with the team getting out to a quick start on the second leg of a triple header with travel. “I love what I’ve seen. I thought our guys were ready right from the drop of the puck. Despite playing yesterday and a long road trip today, our guys came ready and really dictated the pace off the start.”
Early in the second frame, Campbell had a similar pass to Adam Konowalchuk, who one-timed it in from the slot to give the North Stars a 2-0 lead. After allowing two goals in 12 shots, Red Wings goalie Preston Patenaude was pulled from the game. The North Stars took a 2-0 lead into the third period.
