North Stars extend win streak

North Stars win fourth straight, take down Broncos 2-1 on the road

Kaeden Serpa stopped 49 of the 50 shots he faced for the Battlefords North Stars (11-5-2-2, 3rd in Nutrien Division) as the North Stars won 2-1 against the Humboldt Broncos (13-8-0-1, 2nd in Nutrien Division).

Both teams took a pair of penalties in the first period, but neither team could capatalize on the powerplay. However, the North Stars struck on the penalty kill after Keegan Nash took a delay of game penalty.

Kaleb Dewar grabbed the puck in the neutral zone on the penalty kill and took it into the offensive zone. He slid the puck to Finlay Klippenstein, and Klippenstein went top shelf on a sliding Charlie Tritt. With the tally, Klippenstein extended his goal streak to five straight games.

The North Stars took a 1-0 lead into the second period, where neither team were able to get a goal until late. With less than a minute left to go in the period, Klippenstein intercepted a pass at the point. He brought it into the circle and went glove side on Tritt for his second goal of the game and his sixth in five games.

Humboldt was pressuring in the third period, but Serpa had an answer for whatever came his way. That was until Rylan Hue drove the net just over halfway through the period. Serpa stopped it, but Levi Kozma swooped in and buried it to make it 2-1.

The Broncos kept putting on the force throughout the third period, but the North Stars were able to hang on for the 2-1 win to get their fourth straight victory. While Humboldt had 50 shots on, the North Stars banded together in the third period with numerous blocked shots to hold onto the one goal lead.

With the win, the North Stars moved up to sixth place in the SJHL and within a point of the Broncos in the standings. The North Stars were also able to hold Broncos forward Jacob Strizzi pointless, and his 19-game point streak came to an end.

The North Stars are in action next on Nov. 28 when they take on the Melville Millionaires at home. The Ultra Print Services pregame show starts at 7:00 pm Saskatchewan time, while Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS when the North Stars look to extend their win league-high streak to five games.
