RCMP drone used to catch Sask. suspect in Manitoba

Nov 18, 2025 | 4:35 PM

A man who had evaded police in Saskatchewan for several weeks was located in the next province over, thanks to help from the RCMP’s Air Service.

In October, the Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team (WEST) started to look for a 31-year-old suspect who was wanted by Southend RCMP for charges including sexual interference. The RCMP is not providing the man’s name to be mindful of the privacy of the victim, who is a youth.

Investigators determined the suspect was evading arrest in Lac Brochet, a remote community in northwest Manitoba. On Nov. 15, WEST, Police Dog Services, and officers from the Thompson, MB RCMP detachment visited the community. Officers learned the man drove away on a quad as police approached a home he was known to frequent. Officers followed his tracks across a frozen lake, then located and arrested him without incident in a forested area after a remotely piloted aircraft system was used during the operation.

The male was transported back to Saskatchewan and made his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court yesterday, Nov. 17.
