Vancouver Canucks place goalie Thatcher Demko on IR with lower-body injury

VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have placed goalie Thatcher Demko on injured reserve.

General manager Patrik Allvin announced the move Friday, saying it is retroactive to Tuesday, when the all-star netminder left Vancouver’s 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets after playing just one period.

Demko started the game and gave up three goals on eight shots and did not return for the second period. The team later said he would not return due to a lower-body injury.

He also missed three games for maintenance last week, but the Canucks have said the current injury is unrelated to the reason for his maintenance days.
