City council candidates can begin nomination packages this week

Candidates wishing to run for city council in the next by-election can begin assembling their documents for Nomination Packages this week.
The packages include a checklist to ensure candidates have all the required information submitted to the returning officer during the nomination period. The period will run from Dec. 3 to Dec. 17.
Candidates are reminded to complete their Criminal Record Checks from the Battlefords RCMP Detachment. These checks can take five to seven business days to complete, and nomination packages will be considered incomplete if the document is not submitted by the deadline.
The completed criminal record check must be issued by the local RCMP detachment within 30 days prior to the candidate submitting their nomination papers. A check showing a present record will not exclude the candidate from running for a position in the city council.
