North Stars fail to sweep weekend series, lose 3-2 to the Yorkton Terriers

Nov 8, 2025 | 5:16 PM

After a big 4-1 win against the Yorkton Terriers (10-8-0-1, 2nd in Bunge division) on Friday night, the Battlefords North Stars (7-5-2-2, 3rd in Nutrien division) fell flat against the same Terriers and lost 3-2.

Near the end of a back and forth first period, Jye Zawatsky received a hard pass from Gabriel Courchesne on the powerplay and deflected it past North Stars goaltender Kaeden Serpa to put the Terriers up 1-0.

Adam Konowalchuk tied the game for the North Stars early in the second period. Terriers goaltender Alexandro Montoya was scrambling around his crease and got back into position just in time, but Konowalchuk still found the back of the net to tie the game up at one.

About halfway through the second, Courchesne made a nice play on the 2-on-1, waiting out Owen Dyck and finding William Leonard in front for Leonard’s team leading 11th goal of the season.

That goal gave the Terriers a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. Riley Cormier took a roughing penalty near the end of the second, and the North Stars started the final frame on the powerplay.

The North Stars couldn’t capatalize on the man advantage, and Austin Garrett took a penalty of his own a few minutes later. On the power play, Courchesne got on the board for his third point of the game, and the Terriers went up 3-1.

With less than 10 minutes to go, a scrum broke out involving Konowalchuk, Eric Marks and Will Kirwan on the North Stars side and Brett Buckley, Dylan Ruff and Mattias Schoffner for the Terriers. All six players got 10-minute misconducts and were thrown out of the game.

With 2:25 left in the third, Cash Lanigan took an interference penalty and was handed a 10-minute misconduct, giving the North Stars a powerplay. They pulled the goalie on the powerplay and got one back when Finlay Klippenstein tipped in a pass from Josh Knittig to cut the Terriers lead to 3-2.

The North Stars kept applying pressure but couldn’t get the tying goal, and the Terriers got the 3-2 win to end their four-game road trip.

Next game for the North Stars comes on Nov. 10 when they host the Kindersley Klippers in a Nutrien Division matchup. The Ultra Print Services pregame show starts at 7:00 pm Saskatchewan time, while Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
