Western All Star Challenge

North Stars defenseman Linken Fisher named to SJHL roster for Western All-Star Challenge

The Western All-Star Challenge involving the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) is taking place in Martensville, Sask. from Nov. 3 – 5, and the North Stars have Linken Fisher representing the squad on the SJHL roster. He’ll play in two games against the MJHL team.

Fisher has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 11 games this season, which is currently sixth in the league among defencemen. His 0.91 points-per-game is seventh in the SJHL on defence. Fisher is excited to have achieved this and said he’s had some help.

“I had a good start to the year with good teammates, so that definitely helped my chances of getting into it,” said Fisher. “I’m just honoured to be a part of it and be able to get a chance to compete at it.”

Playing at the Western All-Star Challenge comes with the opportunity to team up with players across the league who are usually opponents.

“It’s going to be pretty cool, create a friendship with them. I know a couple of guys on that team already, so it’ll be pretty fun to play alongside them one last time.”

Getting a chance to play with some different coaches is also something that will be an enlightening experience for Fisher.

“It’s going to help for sure. Defensively, offensively, they’re going to give me different looks, tell me different things. It’s going to kind of give me a bigger arsenal,” said Fisher.

North Stars head coach Connor Logan is happy to see Fisher getting this opportunity.

“Really excited for Fish to get the nod to represent team SJHL. He’s a hard-working player, with an elite skillset, especially offensive. I hope he can put all his tools on display and earn a spot on Canada West,” said Logan.

After the Western All-Star Challenge, team SJHL and MJHL will be combined to make up the Canada West team for the World Jr. ‘A’ challenge in December. “It would be a dream to wear the Canada logo on my chest. It’s hard to explain. It would be unreal, though,” said Fisher about the potential opportunity to play for the Canada West team.

The SJHL team will have a practice on Nov. 3 before the games are played Nov. 4 – 5 at Martensville Recreation Centre.
