North Stars kick off Estevan road trip with a 7-5 win over the Bruins

Oct 24, 2025 | 11:57 PM

It was a back-and-forth game between the Battlefords North Stars (5-3-0-2, 3rd in Nutrien Division) and the Estevan Bruins (7-4-2, 2nd in Bunge division) which ended in a 7-5 North Stars victory.

The North Stars got on the board early when Carter Geysen slid the puck in front of the net, it took a couple lucky bounces and trickled in off the skate of Bruins goaltender Dylan Adams to make it 1-0. Geysen doubled down with a deflection in front to give the North Stars a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.

In the second, the puck went off the end boards in the North Stars zone before Bruins’ Carver Shingoose tapped it in for his first SJHL goal to make it 2-1. Linken Fisher responded a couple of minutes later, scoring blocker side from near the top of the circle to bring the lead back to two goals.

Ewan Rennie scored his 12th goal of the season late in the second to cut it back to 3-2. The second period didn’t end without some fireworks. With a couple minutes left, Chase Holt hit Linken Fisher into the boards from behind. Finlay Klippenstein immediately came to Fisher’s defence and dropped the gloves with Holt. The Bruin took Klippenstein down before getting a couple of more shots on the ground. Both players received a five-minute major for fighting and a game misconduct.

The North Stars took a 3-2 lead into the third period, which involved seven total goals and three lead changes. Former North Star Colton Getzlaff tied things at three just over a couple of minutes into the period. Ethan Andrews later scored, giving the Bruins their first lead of the game, 4-3.

The third period was all Bruins to start, and it seemed like they could run away with it after taking the lead. However, Kaleb Dewar scored on a scramble in front just 30-seconds after the Bruins scored to tie the game. A few minutes after Dewar scored, Rennie slid it past Kaeden Serpa for his second goal of the game to make it 5-4 Bruins.

Adam Konowalchuk was able to tie the game with just over six minutes remaining in the third, and Kobe Sawyer scored the eventual game winning goal on the breakaway less than a minute later. Josh Knittig added an empty netter to put a stamp on the North Stars incredibly entertaining 7-5 victory. The game got more chippy as it went on, and the refs had to separate some players after the final buzzer, setting up what could be a heated rematch on Saturday night.

The teams play in that rematch with the Ultra Print Services pregame show beginning at 6:30 pm, and Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey starts at 7:00 on 93.3 Beach Radio.
