Warman Wolverines win first ever home game, take down the Battlefords North Stars 4-2 in the shootout

Oct 19, 2025 | 1:09 AM

The slow starts and penalty troubles were a problem once again for the Battlefords North Stars (4-3-0-2, 3rd in Nutrien Division) in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Warman Wolverines (2-8-0-1, 4th in Nutrien Division).

Warman took a 1-0 lead in the first period when Karson Kerbes deflected a point shot past North Stars goaltender Steele Bass. The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead into the second period.

Kobe Sawyer got one back for the North Stars in the second period. The puck bounced off the end board to Sawyer’s stick, and he shot it into the net before a scrambling Taye Timmerman was able to recover. Both teams got a powerplay opportunity in the second period, but neither team could capitalize, and the game went into the third period tied at one.

About six minutes into the third period, Kane Kennedy skated into the zone on the right side and wired the puck over the shoulder of Bass to give the Wolverines the lead. Josh Knittig tied the game up later in the third, stripping Pherson Loehndorf of the puck and scoring blocker side to make it 2-2.

More than halfway through the third, Sebastian Miles scored his third goal of the season to give the North Stars their first lead of the game with less than 10 minutes to go. However, Knittig took a boarding penalty late in the period, and Riley Rich-Holden deflected a shot in on the power play with less than a minute left to tie the game at three and send it to overtime.

In the overtime period, Knittig took a high stick from Hudson Kerr, and the North Stars got an overtime power play opportunity, but failed to take advantage of it. Battlefords went 0/4 on the power play, and their percentage on the man advantage dropped to 9.5% on the season.

In the shootout, the North Stars sent out Braden Nienaber, Cole Hines and Anthony Campbell, but all of them were turned away by Timmerman. Oliver Nottingham put it blocker side on Steele Bass on the Wolverines’ third shot to give them the 4-3 shootout win, and their first ever win in Warman.

The North Stars are back in action on Friday, Oct. 24 when they are on the road for their first half of a back-to-back against the Estevan Bruins. The Ultra Print Services pregame show will start at 6:30 pm. Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:00 on CJNB and CJNS.
