Battlefords North Stars prepare for home-and-home series with the Humboldt Broncos

Oct 10, 2025 | 12:27 PM

The North Stars (2-2-0-1, 3rd in Nutrien division) are back home on Friday to face off with division rival Humboldt Broncos (6-3, 1st in Nutrien division) for toque and mitten toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring new winter gear and toss it on the ice after the first North Stars goal is scored. All of the gear thrown onto the ice will be donated to the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre.

20-year-old defenseman Easton Adrian started the season with the Broncos but was traded to the North Stars this week. Adrian will be playing this weekend, making his debut against his former team.

When asked about the trade, North Stars head coach Connor Logan praised his size, experience and offensive play.

While the Broncos lost both of their games last weekend to the Yorkton Terriers, they are still coming off a win after they beat the Flin Flon Bombers 5-3. Tyson Sobry had two goals for the Broncos in that one.

Battlefords have now lost two straight games after dropping both to the Melfort Mustangs last weekend. They did still get a point on the weekend, as their game last Friday resulted in a 3-2 shootout win by the Mustangs.

This will be the first time the two teams have played this year. Humboldt won the season series 5-3 in the 2024-25 campaign.

Gavin Granger has been leading the way on offense for the North Stars with seven points (2g, 5a), with Anthony Campbell, Linken Fisher and Josh Knittig just a couple of points back with five each.

On the other side, the Broncos have gotten their most point production from Jacob Strizzi who has 11 points (9g, 2a) in the team’s first nine games. Strizzi’s nine goals lead the league.

There are a couple of players returning from suspension for the North Stars. Braden Nienaber will be back in the lineup after serving a three-game ban for a cross check while facing Kindersley. Carter Geysen will also be back on the ice after sitting out the last game for a major interference penalty against Melfort.

The Ultra Print Services Pregame show starts at 7:00 pm, and Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey begins at 7:30 on 93.3 Beach Radio. Those going to the game can bring their winter clothing for the toques and mittens toss after the North Stars first goal.
