O’Halloran stops 40 of 42 shots, North Stars fall 5-2 to the Kindersley Klippers in the season opener
The Battlefords North Stars hosted the Kindersley Klippers to open the SJHL season and Kindersley took the 5-2 win.
The first period was back and forth but the North Stars outplayed Kindersley in the initial 20 minutes. Kindersley’s best chance of the period came with about six minutes left to go when they got a 5-on-3 powerplay for 1:40, but the North Stars killed it off. Battlefords ended up outshooting Kindersley 12-10 in the first, but they went into the 2nd period scoreless.
The Klippers showed dominance in the second period starting early. Less than a minute into the period, there was a scramble in front of the net with too many bodies to count. Before North Stars starting goaltender Kaeden Serpa had a chance to cover it up, Klippers forward Cobe Perlinger put it in to make it 1-0. Later in the frame, Carter Cole put it over the shoulder of Serpa to make it 2-0.
Not long after, Linken Fisher laid out Kaegan Lowe along the boards which led to a big fight, resulting in three North Stars getting penalties and two Klippers going to the box and giving Kindersley a powerplay. The North Stars killed it off, but penalties continued to be an issue when Drew Williamson went to the box a few minutes later. On the ensuing powerplay, Pryce Thiessen found Cooper Flath wide open in front for the easy tap in, 3-0 Klippers.
