Costs, crime and immigration among MP Falk’s top concerns

Members of Parliament returned to the House of Commons today for fall session after their summer recess.

Rosemarie Falk, MP for Battlefords-Lloydminster-Meadow Lake, said most of the concerns she has heard from constituents while on recess have been about economic issues such as cost of living and trade.

“I’ve heard a lot about affordability. I would say that is probably one of the top issues that affects almost everybody. Another issue we’ve heard a lot about tariffs and how that’s affecting our producers here. Look at our canola farmers, for example,” she said.

“I’ve heard a lot of issues concerning our farmers, our affordability and of course, it sounds silly to say but, people just want to be able to work. They just want to be able to find a job, be able to work and provide for themselves and their families.”

Along with the issues she heard at home, Falk said the Conservative Party will continue its duty as the Official Opposition to hold the governing Liberal Party to account on issues that they believe need to be solved.

“The goal is to bring down costs, lock up criminals, hit the brakes on immigration and get shovels digging and deliver paychecks in the pockets of Canadians. Conservatives want a safe and affordable country like we had previously before this Liberal government,” she said.

The resumption of Parliament marks the return of Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who won a seat in a byelection during the recess period after he lost his previous seat in the Canadian Federal Election earlier this year. Falk believes Poilievre’s relatability to the average Canadian is makes him an effective party leader.

“Pierre is a normal person. He talks openly about his upbringing, about being adopted by two schoolteachers, being raised in Alberta, being raised knowing that hard work is rewarding. That sometimes we have to sacrifice things to make it better,” Falk said.

“I’ve been to his town halls. I’ve heard him. I’ve seen him interact with Canadians and he genuinely cares about leaving Canada better than we received it for the next generation and for generations to come.”

Falk said her time spent with constituents has been productive and positive as she heads to represent them in Parliament once again.

“It’s been great over the summer, being able to travel to different parts within the constituency, hear from the constituents, what matters to them, things that they don’t like, but things that they also do like with what they hear of going on, or votes that have happened within the House of Commons in the spring.”

“[I am] excited to continue to represent the constituents of Battlefords-Lloydminster-Meadow Lake and continue to oppose what is wrong that the government proposes, to expose what is hidden, the scandals and the ethical issues that we’ve seen time and time again under the Liberals, and also to propose what is in the national interest because there is a lot that Conservatives have to propose.”
