The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum held its 2025 induction ceremony in Battleford on Saturday.

This year’s inductees were Kosmer Andreychuk (Yorkton), Glenn Connor (Beechy), Penny Fitzsimmons (Saskatoon), Murray Gray (Maymont), Ken Hamilton (Assiniboia), Rye Pothakos (Regina Red Sox head coach), Kevin Payne (Lloydminster), Logan Hofmann (Muenster), Darren Schaan and Max White (both of Regina).

Three teams were also inducted in this year’s Hall of Fame class: the 1978 Melville Millionaires, 1992 Battleford Bantam A Beavers and the 2005-2015 Riverhurst Thumpers.

American Negro League pitcher Sherman Cottingham was inducted to the hall and served as the guest speaker for the ceremony. Cottingham played for the North Battleford Beavers for the 1964 and 1965 seasons, winning MVP in the latter season.

Hall of Fame President Ray Beck said it was an honour to induct Cottingham into the hall.

“He’s legendary up here in the Battlefords, in North Battleford and the big area. And so, he was inducted this year. I think his whole family came there with him. So, we were honoured to have them there and he was our guest speaker and did a masterful job.”

Beck said emotions were high at the ceremonies as the inductees were honoured to have their names immortalized among Saskatchewan’s baseball greats.

“Every time a plaque was handed out, it was a very emotional moment.”

Along with the 2025 induction ceremony, the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame received a $5,000 cheque as a platinum sponsorship from the Battlefords Hotel Association. Beck said donations and sponsorships from local organizations are vital to the museum.

“We have been trying to get platinum sponsors for years and that was the first one that I’m aware of,” Beck continued. “We have some plans down the road which need to be looked at and so we’re really going to increase our fundraising plans.”
