Aug 13, 2025 | 3:29 PM

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for a storm northwest of North Battleford that was tracking to the northeast.

A series of SaskAlert warnings were sent starting around 3 p.m. to affected areas including the R.M. of Medstead, Belbutte and Birch Lake, Meota and Battlefords Provincial Park, R.M. of Parkdale including Glaslyn and Fairholme and the R.M. of Round Hill including Rabbit Lake and Whitkow. The alerts advised people in the path of the storm to take immediate shelter. Residents in the Battlefords might receive the alert on their cellphones, but the tornado is not expected to hit the area.

Environment Canada said their meteorologists were tracking a line of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, golf ball-sized hail and heavy rain. The storms stretched from near Denzil to northwest of Mantario and were moving east. A user on ‘X’ posted a photo of hail about 1.5 inches in diametre that fell near Paynton Wednesday afternoon.

To protect against a tornado, go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet. Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if possible.
