A North Battleford man is facing a long list of charges after RCMP seized a handgun from a hotel room in Carnduff, a town located roughly 700 kilometres southeast of North Battleford, last week.

Carnduff RCMP were called around 9:20 p.m. on July 14 with a report that a man had a firearm at a local hotel. Police say an investigation determined an adult male had threatened another person and was in possession of a handgun. The individual was not physically injured.

Officers obtained a search warrant, entered the hotel room and arrested the man. A handgun was seized at the scene.

As a result, 28-year-old Taylor Starchief is facing 16 charges under the Criminal Code, including two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm; possession of a handgun without a licence; possession of a magazine without a licence; removing a serial number from a firearm; possession of a prohibited device while under a prohibition order (two counts); failure to comply with a release order (four counts); assault; uttering threats; unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a firearm knowing possession was unauthorized; and overcoming resistance to the commission of an offence.
