Hold onto your hats and tighten those belt buckles, the rodeo is back in North Battleford this weekend.

The 53rd Annual North Battleford Kinsmen Indoor Rodeo is set to take place from April 25 to 27 at the Access Communications Centre.

Organized by the North Battleford Kinsmen Club, this long-standing community tradition promises a weekend filled with exciting rodeo action, attracting participants and spectators from across Western Canada.

“We’re always excited for this event,” said organizing committee chair Heath Gabruch.

“It’s one of the bigger Canadian Cowboy Association rodeos across Western Canada and we have great support. The community always comes together to watch the young local cowboys. It’s going to be a nice weekend for the rodeo, and we hope everybody comes out and has a good time,” he added.

Last year, the event saw over 2,000 people a day come watch the various rodeo events, including bull riding, barrel racing, roping, and steer wrestling with professionals and upcoming talent competing.

In addition to the rodeo competition, the weekend will also offer special attractions such as kids’ events, live entertainment, and the crowning of the Kinsmen Rodeo Queen, Gabruch said.

“Friday night is our kids’ night and Sunday afternoon will also be a kids’ day. We’ve got wild pony rides during the intermissions and the Truco Trick Riders will be coming and doing some tricks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So that’ll be some fun for people in the stands and then we got the social in the auditorium Friday and Saturday and the crowning of the Rodeo Queen on Sunday,” he said.

Apart from providing top tier entertainment, the rodeo also serves as a significant fundraiser for local initiatives. Proceeds from the event are used to support various community projects and organizations.

“All the proceeds from that event stay in the community for various organizations and programming that the Community needs. It’s nothing specific but things like the Boys and Girls Club, TeleMiracle or even helping build a playground or something like that. It’s used to serve the youth in the community,” he said.

The rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and then at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Doors open one hour prior.

Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and kids five and under get in for free. Tickets are available at the door only.
