AAA Stars wrap up season with awards banquet

Apr 22, 2025 | 8:33 PM

The Battlefords AAA Stars ended off their season this past weekend with a night of celebration and recognition at their year-end awards banquet, honouring the players whose dedication and hard work stood out on and off the ice.

Finishing the season at ninth overall in the league with a 14-24-4 (W-L-OTL) record for 33 points, the Stars took a one spot jump from last season and saw themselves just one spot short of making the playoffs.

The night’s biggest honouree was forward Waylon Gardipy, who took home four major honours: the MVP, the Most Dedicated Player, the Coaches Award and the Best +/- of the Year. Gardipy’s all-around presence, on-ice abilities, and relentless work ethic made him a standout throughout the season, finishing with 22 goals and 25 assists for 47 points in 44 games. He also played eight games with the La Ronge Ice Wolves in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) at the end of the season, where he scored three goals.

The Stars defensive core was also honored, with Lukamus Lehman and Millar Kramer sharing the Top Defenceman award for their reliability and strong contribution on the back end. Lehman put up five goals and 19 assists during the season, while Kramer tallied eight goals and 16 assists, totaling 24 points for both of them.

Lane Keyowski took home the award for Top Defensive Player and shared the Mike Reynolds Memorial Award with Kaegan Lowe, who was also named Rookie of the Year. In his first year with the team, Lowe was third in team points, notching 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points.

Luke Norman was awarded the Alan Welykochy Memorial Recognition for Hockey, Education and Citizenship for his impact not just as a player but as a role model in the community.

Goaltender Nic Grunerud was recognized as the Most Improved Player, showing development and consistency throughout the year, while Tyrell Flodell received the Most Underrated Player award for his quiet but important impact on the blueline.

Kash Alger-East earned the Top Scorer honour, capping off the season with an impressive 29 goals and 27 assists for 56 points in just 42 games.

Despite not making the playoffs, the Stars have a lot to look forward to for next season with a solid group of returning experienced talent and young promising prospects, marking a bright future for the team.

The Stars recently announced the signing of six new players for the 2025/26 season: Nate Helmeczi (Forward), Noah Larre (Forward), Crosby Cole (Forward), Chance Regush (Forward), Cody Marciniuk (Goalie) and Darryl McKenzie (Defenseman).

As of now, the Stars have 10 players returning for next season: Lukamus Lehman, Kobi Weber, Corbin Nieman, Lane Keyowski, Marc Bourdon, Rylee Belyk, Kaden Sperle, Luke Norman, Graydon Neumeier and Aaron Kowalyk.
