BHC Foundation capital campaign underway

The capital campaign to “Test. Treat. Save Lives” is officially underway after the Battlefords Healthcare Foundation launched last week during National Medical Laboratory Week.

The $400,000 fundraising goal will go towards upgrading much needed laboratory equipment.

“Timely testing saves lives. With this campaign, we’re not starting from scratch—we’re enhancing the essential lab systems our hospital relies on every day,” said Leanne Ducommun, foundation’s executive director via news release.

“These upgrades will lead to faster results, quicker treatment decisions, and improved outcomes for patients and families during the most critical moments.”

This year, the community will help the foundation buy a blood culture identification system, microbial identification and susceptibility system that allow medical teams to accurately detect infections and choose treatment, a blood culture incubator and microbial detection system to not only speed up detection but allow for better diagnostics and an oxygen (O2) incubator that will allow for better testing over a range of samples.

According to the release, the upgrades will not only allow for patients to be diagnosed and treated more quickly, but it will also reduce wait times and stays at the Battlefords Union Hospital.
