Fire ban in effect

‘Exercise extreme caution’: Meadow Lake fire chief warns of fire risk

Apr 14, 2025 | 3:04 PM

A fire ban has been issued throughout the Rural Municipality of Meadow Lake.

Meadow Lake Fire Chief Joe Grela said there has already been at least two grass fires in the last week and the super dry conditions coupled with fairly warm and windy weather makes the fire risk extreme.

The advisory was issued Monday afternoon and said permits for open fires are suspended until further notice. The prohibition includes campfires and open-air fires, the use of tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers, sky lanterns, burning barrels or burning cages and the use of binary exploding targets (e.g. for rifle target practice).

Grela urged citizens to exercise extreme caution with all sources of ignition including vehicle exhaust pipes and careless disposal of cigarettes.
