Maidstone emergency centre adds 24/7 virtual physician support

Apr 2, 2025 | 10:34 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has expanded its virtual physician program to provide overnight emergency care at the Maidstone Collaborative Emergency Centre (CEC), also known as Maidstone Medical Clinic.

As of April 1, the program replaces previous overnight coverage provided remotely by Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service (STARS) physicians. Maidstone joins Canora and Shaunavon in adopting this model, which is already in place in 21 other rural communities.

During the day, the CEC operates with on-site physician support for both primary and emergency care.

Overnight, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., registered nurses or a nurse-paramedic team will manage emergency cases with virtual support from an emergency department physician, using HealthLine 811’s voice and video technology.
