Last night at the Access Comminations Centre, the Battlefords North Stars season officially came to an end as they lost 2-1 to the Weyburn Red Wings in Game 6 of their playoff series to lose the series 4-2.

From the start of the first period, it was a though fought matchup with both teams playing hard and solid defensively. Despite good scoring chances from both sides, no one was able to score in the first 20 minutes and the game went to the second tied 0-0.

In the second period, the battle continued and it seemed like neither team was going to let up but eventually the Red Wings opened up the scoring with just over seven minutes left in the period to go up 1-0.

Throughout the rest of the period, the North Stars and Red Wings traded rushes back and forth but still no one else could add to the score and it went to the intermission.

Coming out for the third, both teams turned up the intensity, putting on lots of shots and finding good opportunities, but it was Weyburn who was able to light the lamp nearing the midway point of the period to go up 2-0.

In the end, the North Stars pulled their net-minder for an extra attacker and answered back with a goal from Braden Nienaber to close the gap to 2–1, but even then, they couldn’t find another goal and the clock ran out, bringing the North Stars season to an end.

The North Stars outshot the Red Wings 35 to 29, went 0/2 on the powerplay and stopped Weyburn all four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric stopped 27 out of 29 shots in game.
