Yesterday, the Battlefords AAA Sharks were at Merlis Belsher Place in Saskatoon for Game 2 of the Sask. Female U18 AAA Hockey League finals against the Saskatoon Stars and won 2-1 to tie the series.

In the first period, the Stars opened up the scoring with a goal from Halle Duchene to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Sharks answered back though with a goal of their own from Sophie Brecht to tie the game 1-1. Then shortly after that, the Sharks found the back of the net again, this time from Sarah McNabb to take the lead 2-1. Throughout the rest of the period, the Sharks kept up with the strong play but couldn’t add to the scoreboard and the game went to intermission with the Sharks leading 2-1.

In the second and third period, the Sharks continued to control the game, playing solid defensively and making it hard for the Stars to score and neither team was able to find another goal.

Then in the final minutes of the game, the Stars pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and tried to even the score but the Sharks stayed strong and time ran out, giving the Sharks the 2-1 win.

The Sharks got outshot by the Stars 39 to 25, went 0/1 on the powerplay and stopped the Stars their only time on the penalty kill.

Cypress Classen helped lead the team to the win stopping 38/39 shots in the game.

The series is now tied 1-1 going into the final game this Saturday, March 29 at the Battleford Arena with puck drop at 5:00 p.m.
