North Stars shutout Klippers to win division and end regular season

Mar 16, 2025 | 3:05 AM

Last night, the Battlefords North Stars were at the Inter Pipeline Arena in Kindersley for their final game of the regular season and shutout the Kindersley Klippers 6-0 to take the Nutrien Division title.

In the first period, the North Stars opened up the scoring just eight minutes in on a powerplay goal from Anthony Campbell to take a 1-0 lead.

Despite putting on continuous pressure and outshooting the Klippers 19-11 in the period, the North Stars couldn’t add another to the scoreboard and went into the intermission up 1-0.

For the second, right out the gate, both teams upped the intensity and came out ready to play. Throughout the period, it was a back and forth affair with solid rushes and good shots coming from either side. Still, no one could find the back of the net and the game went to the second intermission with the North Stars still leading 1-0.

Coming out for the third though, the North Stars had an offensive surge, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of the period, coming from Anthony Campbell and Jace Rask to extend the lead to 3-0. Shortly after that, Battlefords was able to light the lamp again, not once but twice within 35 seconds of each other, this time from Braden Nienaber and Jordan Grill to go up 5-0.

Then to seal the deal, the North Stars found the back of the net once more from Josh Knittig to take the 6-0 win over the Klippers.

The North Stars outshot the Klippers 45 to 34, went 2/5 on the powerplay and stopped Kindersley all four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric had another great game, stopping all 34 shots to grab his first shutout of the season.

Battlefords now ends off the regular season with a 29-22-3-2 record for 63 points, giving them the Nutrien Division title and 6th overall in the league going into playoffs.

The North Stars will take on the Weyburn Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs with games one and two on March 21 and 22 at Crescent Point Place in Weyburn. Game times are still undetermined.
