‘Don’t fall for this’: Moe says his likeness being used in crypto scam

Mar 15, 2025 | 12:30 PM

No, Premier Scott Moe is not endorsing cryptocurrency.

The Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA) issued a warning people about a scam claiming the premier was lending his name and image to trading CanCap – not to be confused with the CanCap Group and BitCan.

Neither are registered with the FCAA and they caution investors and consumers not to invest with companies not registered in Saskatchewan as they may not be legitimate.

In a social media post, Moe addressed the scam and accompanying fake news articles saying it wasn’t just his image being used but other public figures. In fact, New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt’s image was also used.

“Please don’t fall for this. You will never see me endorsing crypto or any specific investment,” he wrote.

To help protect yourself, the FCAA recommends consumers to always get verification the company is registered within the province, know what your investment is in and understand how it works.

Always seek professional advice as a second opinion and don’t allow people to have remote access to your computer if they haven’t been verified.

Anyone who has invested with either of the companies involved with the scam, are asked to contact the FCAA’s Securities Division at 306-787-5936.
