After coming off a weekend sweep over the Estevan Bruins and now on a four game win streak with a playoff spot clinched, the Battlefords North Stars have had three players receive Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) honours for their play throughout the week and month.

Goaltender Justen Maric was named the SJHL Goalie of the Month for having a 6-2 record in eight games while holding a 2.52 goals against average and .927 save percentage. Throughout the month, he also had a total of 253 saves and helped the team hold onto their sixth overall spot in the league and first in their division.

“It’s a great honour and I’m super pumped to be named Goalie of the Month. I think it’s a testament to how the team has performed in the month of February and we are looking to continuing this momentum moving forward,” Maric said.

Forward, Anthony Campbell was also named the SJHL MVP of the Week for his huge seven point weekend against Estevan. In the two games, he notched five goals and two assists, including a hat trick in Saturday’s 6-3 win. He also won 57 per cent of his faceoffs during the weekend and now leads the team in goals with 26 and is tied for first in team points with 50.

Then North Stars forward and Kyle, Saskatchewan product Rylan Williams was awarded the SJHL Saskatchewan Player of the Week. Williams grabbed two goals and two assists for four points in the weekend matchup over the Bruins.

North Stars head coach, Martin Smith said the play from all three players was impressive and helped the team a lot this past weekend.

“It’s no secret Justen has been our starter this year and he gives us a chance to win every night. Anthony had a great weekend as well and really picked up his game in the last month and scored some big goals for us. Rylan’s game has also really improved, he’s getting to open ice as well as the tough areas, he is playing a complete game. With the standings so tight, all three really raised their games, they are big reasons why we clinched a playoff spot on the weekend,” Smith said.
