The Battlefords North Stars were back at the Access Communications Centre last night and ended up beating the Estevan Bruins 6-3 to get their fourth win in a row and officially clinch a spot in the playoffs.

In the first period, the North Stars came out strong, getting the first two goals of the game, both coming from Anthony Campbell, one on the powerplay and one shorthanded to take a 2-0 lead going into the intermission.

Coming out for the second, the North Stars had some penalty problems and this resulted in a powerplay goal for the Bruins to close the gap to 2-1 just five minutes into the period. Shortly after though, the North Stars answered back with a powerplay goal of their own, coming from Rylan Williams to make it a 3-1 game.

Throughout the rest of the second, it was a tight checking affair with both teams getting minimal chances. By the end of the period, neither team was able to add to the scoreboard and it went to the third with the North Stars leading 3-1.

Then to start the third, it was the Bruins who came out with the hot hand, grabbing two goals within the first three minutes of the period to tie the game 3-3.

As the period went on, both squads traded rushes and had some good chances but it was Battlefords who struck the nylon on a goal from Treycen Wuttunee to give the North Stars a 4-3 lead. Following that, the North Stars were able to add another one, this time from Elijah Anderson, his 19th of the season to extend the lead to 5-3.

The Bruins tried to rally back in the end by pulling their goalie for an extra attacker but couldn’t convert and the North Stars sealed the deal with an empty net goal from Anthony Campbell to give him a hat trick and Battlefords the 6-3 win.

The North Stars outshot the Bruins 32 to 31, went 2/5 on the powerplay and stopped Estevan six out of seven times on the penalty kill.

Thomas Samborski had a solid game, stopping 28/31 shots in the win.

Battlefords record now stands at 27-20-3-2 on the season for 59 points, keeping them at sixth overall in the league and first in the Nutrien Division.

The North Stars get back in action next weekend as they head to Flin Flon to take on the Flin Flon Bombers in back-to-back games on March 7 and 8.
