Pargat Singh scores 117 not out to lead Canada to cricket win over Zimbabwe ‘A’

HARARE — Pargat Singh scored 117 not out Saturday to lead Canada to a seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe ‘A’ and a 2-1 win in the three match one-day international series.

After losing the first match by four wickets Wednesday, the Canadians rebounded with a four-wicket victory Friday to even the series.

Canada won the toss Saturday and elected to field at the Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe openers Tanunurwa Makoni and Tinashe Chiorah both went cheaply, for one and four runs, respectively. But No. 4 batsman Antum Naqvi restored the home side hopes with an innings of 86 before being bowled by Parveen Kumar.

Zimbabwe finished at 190 all out in 46.2 overs with Canadian bowlers Kumar, Ajayveer Hundal and Akhil Kumar each taking two wickets.

Hundal lasted just five balls with the bat, exiting on just one run. But fellow opener Aaron Johnson and Singh, the No. 3 batsman, forged a good partnership with Canada not conceding another wicket until the 17th over with Johnson departing on 31.

Singh hammered 14 fours and four sixes in his 78-ball knock.

Canada reached the victory target in the 26th over, with 148 ball remaining, finishing at 191 for three.
