Last night at the Access Communications Centre, the Battlefords North Stars continued their success, beating Nutrien division rival, Kindersley Klippers 5-2 in their sixth meeting of the season.

The North Stars came out strong in the first period, scoring the opening goal of the game just under eight minutes in, coming Elijah Anderson, assisted by Treycen Wuttunee to take a 1-0 lead. Despite having good chances throughout the rest of the period, neither team could add to the scoreboard so the game went intermission with the North Stars leading by one.

In the second period, Battlefords wasted no time to extend their lead early on as they found the back of the net again from Elijah Anderson for his second of the day to go up 2-0. As the period went on though, the North Stars momentum slowly started to fade and Kindersley started to put on some pressure. This eventually resulted in a goal for the Klippers just before the five minute mark in the period to close the gap to 2-1.

By the end of the second, the Klippers had outshot the North Stars 16-6 in the period, but after some crucial big saves from Justen Maric, the score remained the same and game went on to the third.

Coming out for the third, the North Stars yet again lit the lamp early on, scoring a minute into the period, this time from Josh Knittig to go up 3-1. Following that, Battlefords continued to control the game and grabbed another goal, coming from Treycen Wuttunee to further extend the lead to 4-1.

Kindersley was able to score one more goal on a powerplay to lessen the deficit, but it was too late and the North Stars sealed the deal with an empty net goal from Elijah Anderson, giving him the hat-trick and the team a 5-2 win.

The North Stars got outshot in the game 44 to 31, went 0/1 on the powerplay and stopped Kinderlsey three out of four times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric was a big difference maker in the game, stopping 42/44 shots.

The win now improves Battlefords record to 25-20-3-2 on the season, putting them back to sixth overall in the SJHL and first in the Nutrien division.

The North Stars get back in action this Friday, Feb. 28 as they take on the Estevan Bruins at the Access Communications Centre at 7:30 p.m.
