Battlefords Toastmasters Develope Communication Skills

Feb 11, 2025 | 10:08 AM

Confident public speaking is the name of the game at Battlefords Toastmasters!

In this era of online and digital communications, it is easy to lose the skills needed for effective verbal communication. Toastmasters is an international organization that helps members develop stronger listening, speaking, and leadership skills.

Toastmasters International is the only organization devoted to making effective communication a worldwide reality. Meetings are run with a “learn by doing” workshop in which these skills are developed amongst a group of friendly people who are ready to work together for the same purpose.

This shared commitment to a worthwhile goal gives Toastmasters Clubs a special energy. Members draw strength from one another and take pride in helping each other grow and develop in an atmosphere of friendship and enjoyment. This spirit of camaraderie and mutual support is one of the most satisfying benefits of Toastmasters Membership. It also makes learning educational and fun. Where else can you learn the art of giving a toast while sharing great food and stories?

Many members enter Toastmasters as a way to prepare for a new role they have been assigned by their employers. The program offers foundational skills training, as well as the opportunities to explore new skills and improve existing ones.

You can become more confident with customer presentations, develop leadership and evaluation skills to aid in becoming a manager, and become skilled in small talk and impromptu answering. Whatever your organization requires of you, Toastmasters has a meeting role to help you continue to professionally develop and improve your skills.

As a professional organization, meetings may also qualify toward Continuing Education Units for your profession.

One of the most important attributes of the Toastmasters organizations is that it is a self-paced program. You could choose to launch into your first speech immediately, or instead begin toward leadership roles working through the roles on the agenda and gaining confidence.

The Battlefords are fortunate to be a community that has a local Toastmasters club. Battlefords Toastmasters meets Wednesday evenings at the Don Ross Centre, Room #108 from 7-9PM.

Guests are always welcome to attend and are encouraged to arrive by about 6:50PM to get set up. There is a special guest night being held on Wednesday, February 12th but guests are welcome anytime.

Being an in-person only format, Battlefords Toastmasters gives you an opportunity to get off your screen and enjoy face-to-face interaction. As Zig Zigler said, “you don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great”.

For professional growth and personal development, head over to Battlefords Toastmasters to get started on your path to greatness!
