Big bounce back for North Stars in Davidson

Feb 5, 2025 | 11:41 AM

Last night at the AGT Centre in Davidson, the Battlefords North Stars snapped their four game losing streak by beating the Notre Dame Hounds 4-1.

In the first period, the North Stars came out firing on all cylinders, controlling the puck possession and pace of the game. Despite having lots of good chances and out shooting the Hounds 16-7 in the period, neither team could find the back of the net and the game was scoreless going into the second.

For the second period, the North Stars continued to attack and put on relentless pressure but Notre Dame netminder, Spencer Borsos made some big saves to keep his team in the game.

By the end of the second, both teams still had yet to open up the scoring, making it 0-0 going into the intermission.

Then in the third period, the Hounds finally started to crack and flood gates opened for the North Stars, starting with a goal from Rylan Williams to go up 1-0. Shortly after that, the North Stars lit the lamp again, this time on the powerplay from Nikita Ivashchenko to extend the lead to 2-0.

To seal the deal, the North Stars grabbed two more goals nearing the end of the period, coming from Anthony Campbell and Jace Rask to make it 4-0. Notre Dame was able to score one goal in the final two minutes but the damage was already done and Battlefords took the game with a final score of 4-1.

The North Stars outshot the Hounds 46 to 30, went 1/2 on the powerplay and stopped Notre Dame both times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric played a great game, stopping 29/30 shots.

Battlefords record now improves to 21-17-3-2 on the season for 47 points, bumping them to sixth overall in the league.

The North Stars will have a rematch against the Hounds tonight at the Duncan McNeil Arena in Wilcox for their final matchup against each other of the season.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. and don’t miss any of the action with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on CJNB/CJNS. Ultra Print pregame show starts at 7 p.m.
