Snow warning issued for Melfort area; Sask highway conditions variable
Road conditions improved Saturday morning across the province, but travellers are still being encourage to check the Highway Hotline before travel as some parts of the province are expecting up to 10 centimetres of snow this weekend.
Earlier in the day, travel was not recommended on Highway 1 from Regina to Moose Jaw because of zero visibility. By 11 a.m., most highways in the province were listed as ‘partly covered.’
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued a snowfall warning for a pocket in the province’s north east around Melfort and Nipawin. The snow is expected to begin tonight and will ease from west to east through the day on Sunday.
The ECCC warning said, ‘A low pressure system crossing southern Saskatchewan will bring widespread snow to the eastern Prairies. This will include an area of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow that will fall through portions of eastern Saskatchewan on Saturday evening and central Manitoba on Sunday. The snow will ease to lingering flurries through Sunday into Monday.’
