Jan 27, 2025 | 12:45 PM

Two men have been charged with aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing incident that happened on Jan. 24 in Canoe Lake Cree First Nation.

According to a police report, just after midnight last Friday, Beauval RCMP responded to a stabbing on the reserve, where the victim was later taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Subsequently, officers from Patuanak and Ile a la Crosse spotted the suspect’s truck while patrolling the area, which then fled at high speed on Highway 965 and onto Highway 903 toward Meadow Lake.

Out of public safety, officers from the Meadow Lake Detachment and Police Dog Services used a tire deflation device to stop the truck, arresting both the driver and the passenger.

As a result of further investigation, a 24-year-old man from Meadow Lake is now charged with nine offences, including aggravated assault, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguise with intent to commit the offence, and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.

The other suspect, a 34-year-old man from Flying Dust First Nation, is also charged with nine offences, including aggravated assault, four counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, disguised with intent to commit the offence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a police officer, and refusal to comply with demand.

They both appeared in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Jan. 27.
