Travel not recommended around parts of North Battleford: Highway Hotline

Jan 11, 2025 | 12:02 PM

A pair of highways in the North Battleford area have been stamped as travel not recommended by the Highway Hotline.

Highway #4 to Cando and Highway #29 to Wilkie were both hit with the label as ice and drifting snow are making for poor conditions.

Many other roads and highways are under an advisory too, as Saskatchewan RCMP advised the public that the weather is also causing issues on Highways #7, #14, #21 and #51 near Kindersley, Unity, Kerrobert and Macklin where conditions include poor visibility, snow, ice and freezing rain.

The Highway Hotline as of 12:00 p.m. Saturday across Central Saskatchewan. (Highway Hotline)

The snow started on the evening of Jan. 10 with the majority falling in the province’s southwest. According to Environment Canada, the Cypress Hills region is expected to get 15-20 cm of snow and could see up to 50 cm.

Additionally, the Highway Hotline also listed a handful of highways as travel not recommended on Saturday morning, but most have now been changed to covered or partly covered conditions.

RCMP encourage everyone to check the weather and the Highway Hotline before travelling.

It recommends delaying or cancelling travel if possible. If you must travel, it recommends to stay on roads that have recently received road maintenance.
