Two men arrested and charged with drug trafficking on Wednesday in North Battleford, after a standoff in a parking lot with RCMP officers, will remain in custody until at least their bail hearing.

35-year-old Rolfe Herman and 42-year-old Clinton Opekokew first appeared in court by phone on Friday.

Opekokew is charged with six offences, including procession of methamphetamine with the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited stun gun and possession of a stolen identity.

The federal crown prosecutor opposed his release.

He is charged with six offences, which include the procession of methamphetamine with the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest by running away and breaching probation orders by the procession or consumption of drugs while prohibited.

In addition to the charges related to the incident in North Battleford, he faces three sets of charges associated with Saskatoon, including breaching probation on Dec. 4, 2024, by not reporting as required.

His release was also opposed.

Both men are back in court on Jan. 14, and are expected to appear by phone or video.
