Ring in the New Year at the Agrivilla Dec. 31

Dec 24, 2024 | 2:00 PM

As the first day of winter settles in, the world looks to the start of a new year.

With the proverbial ball is set to drop, a party awaits at the Battlefords Agricultural Society, lest old acquaintance be forgotten.

“Years ago, we used to always do a New Years celebration and we just kind of got out of the habit,” said Jocelyn Ritchie, society general manager.

Two years ago, they tried to bring the tradition back but due to the pandemic’s lingering presence in the residents’ minds, it wasn’t the turnout they hoped for.

Simply called the New Years Eve Celebration, the 19 plus event will run from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Agrivilla on Dec. 31, and feature live music. Advance tickets are $20 each, $25 at the door or a table of eight is $150.

Revelers may take in the cash bar, a midnight lunch and once the frivolity and dancing are over, they will have safe rides.

“Lots of draws throughout the night so you may come home with a nice prize, and just lots of fun,” she said of ringing in the New Year together.

“We’ll have party favours and a little bit of bubbly at midnight to bring in the New Years.”

There is room for 400 attendees, and it was a way for the community to come together in festive spirit and celebrate the upcoming fresh start.

“Just comradery and get everybody back out in the public,” said Ritchie.

“Honestly, I think it’s still not quite there, I still think people are quite hesitant, another thing is our economy. It’s very difficult for people to have the extra money to go out.”

It was this reason for the low-ticket pricing.

Meanwhile, the night is all about enjoying each other’s company and people are welcome to come as they are – there isn’t a dress code.

“Some people will dress up and some people will just come a little bit casual.”
