Klippers double up North Stars to end first half of season

Dec 22, 2024 | 11:03 AM

It was the last game of 2024 for the Battlefords North Stars on Saturday at the Access Communications Centre, and after a tough fought game, ended up losing to the Kinderlsey Klippers, 6-3.

In the first period, the North Stars came out getting some good looks on net but still failed to get on the board as it was the Klippers who got the first two goals to take a 2-0 lead in the first.

For the second, it was the Klippers again who opened up the scoring midway through the period with a powerplay goal to go up, 3-0.

The North were able to answer back though, getting two goals of their own coming from Jace Rask and Rylan Williams to close the gap and make it 3-2.

Then just as it seemed like the North Stars had some momentum, the Klippers found the back of the net two more times to end off the second with a 5-2 lead.

For the third, Battlefords opened up the period with a big shorthanded goal coming from Anthony Campbell, closing the gap to 5-3.

But as the period went on the North Stars had a hard time finding shots and then Kindersley sealed the deal with one final goal to take the game, 6-3.

The North Stars got outshot 29-28, went 0/3 on the powerplay and stopped Kindersley four out of seven times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric stopped 23 out of 29 shots in the contest.

The North Stars record now sits at 15-10-3-2 (W-L-OTL-SOL) on the season for 35 points, putting them at fifth overall in the league.

The next game for the North Stars will be in the new year on Jan. 4th at the Access Communications Centre as they take on the Nipawin Hawks with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
