Table Mountain open for the holidays

Despite the lack of snow so far this December, Table Mountain Regional Park will be open and ready for mountain goers to enjoy this holiday season.

“We finished making snow here last Thursday and we were officially open to the public on the 14th. If Mother Nature doesn’t give us anything, we’ve got lots of snow to keep us through till the end of March and there will be snow here probably till the middle of April,” said General Manager Lawrence Blouin.

Even though their opening day was on Dec. 14, Table Mountain has been closed temporarily since Dec. 16 and will stay closed until Dec. 19 as they prepare for the heavy traffic in the coming weeks.

They will be open Dec. 20 to 24, closed on Christmas Day and then will be open again from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5. Hours will be as normal with the chalet open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the chairlift running from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Friday night skiing starts on Jan. 3 and the hours for that will be as usual, the chalet open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the chairlift running 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Looking ahead to the rest of January, February and March, the hours will remain the same and they will be open six days a week while being closed on Mondays.

In terms of pricing, there has been a slight increase, said Blouin.

“Prices are up a little bit again this season as the cost for everything is going up. We have to make sure that we generate enough income to be able to pay all the expenses and have a little bit leftover for repairs, new capital expenditures and things like that.”

Table Mountain will also have a Ski with Santa Event on Dec. 23.
