Twinkle Tours voting underway

North Battleforld, it’s twinkle time.

Homes decked out in all their shiny splendor have officially taken over city neighbourhoods.

“The Twinkle Tour is a great way to celebrate the festivities around the holiday season here with all the beautiful outdoor decorations,” said Nic Fransoo, Pattison Media program director.

The 6th annual contest once again pairs up 1050 CJNB and the City of North Battleford for cheery competition. 23 submissions were uploaded to the station’s website and Fransoo said this is the fun part.

“Our listeners are now in charge of who wins the People’s Choice Award,” he said of the voting period which runs until Thursday, Dec.12 at 5 p.m.

According to Candace Toma, North Battleford public and intergovernmental relations coordinator, the tours have evolved a lot over the years.

“It seems to be growing every year in terms of popularity and the amount of different community partners that get involved,” she said.

According to Fransoo, when the photos were submitted to the CJNB website, the homes were added to an interactive map. From there, a panel of judges go around and decide who has the best block, the best house and best business.

The tours are once again self-guided and for those neighbourhoods that really get into the holiday spirit, there’s an extra incentive.

“You may notice this around town, there are different blocks that are indicated as ‘Best Block’ from different years of the Twinkle Tour – so you get an actual road sign added to your block.”

The fun all wraps up with a wrap event on Dec. 14 at the Nationswest Field House that will feature hot chocolate, barbecue, cookie, entertainment and of course to announce the winners.

“They’ll Light Up the Night in a serious way with fireworks to end the evening,” Fransoo said of the event that runs from 4 to 6 p.m.

Here are the prizes up for grabs: Best House: One free night in Gold Eagle Lodge, two one-time family swimming passes, one small private rental for eight people in Capitol Theatre and a $100 Co-Op gift card

Best Business: two one-time family swimming passes and two small private rentals for 8 people each time in Capitol Theatre.

People’s Choice comes from CJNB listeners.

“I think what we’re seeing is that increased excitement,” said Toma.

“Of course, there’s always the bragging rights of winning those prizes but I think people just genuinely appreciate that opportunity to spread a little bit of joy. So, we’re never surprised because it is such an amazing community for that specific reason.”
