Battlefords North Stars Preview

North Stars finally back at home after three weeks on the road

Dec 3, 2024 | 10:22 AM

After coming off of a tough lost this past Friday against the Melfort Mustangs, the Battlefords North Stars are on the road once more tonight before they play back at the Access Communication Centre this weekend.

Now sitting at 12-7-3-1 and tied for third overall in the league with 28 points, the North Stars head to Melville tonight to take on the Melville Millionaires for the first time this season.

Melville currently sits at 13-8-2-1 on the season with 29 points for second overall in the standings.

The Millionaires biggest contributor so far this season has been Caden Drury, who leads the league in points with 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 24 games. He will be a big difference maker for the team in the matchup along with some of their other top players like Jadon Iyogun, Raiden Zacharias and Ryan Roethke.

Apart from individual players, the toughest thing about going against this Melville team is their strong, physical and hard nose style of defence.

This will be a big game for the North Stars as they are only one point behind Melville, so being able to walk away with two points and take a jump in the standings would be huge for the team and make a big difference in the long run.

Following the game tonight, the North Stars will finally make their way back home after seven games to take on the Weyburn Red Wings on Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec 7 at the Access Communications Centre.

This will be the third and fourth time Battlefords will take on Weyburn this season with the North Stars winning the other two games.

The Red Wings record sits at 13-6-2-1 on the season and they are tied for third overall in the league with North Stars with 28 points.

With the North Stars already having success against Weyburn this season, they will go into this game knowing what to expect. But that being said, Weyburn has a lot of talented players and is one of the top teams in the league for a reason, so the North Stars can’t go in there expecting an easy win.

Just like last time, Battlefords will have to watch out for Ethan Dekay and Jerome Maharaj as the top offensive weapons for the Red Wings. They also have a good goaltending tandem in Dazza Mitchell and Angelo Zol as well.

These games are also going to be very important for the North Stars, as if they can get wins in both of them it could give a good gap points wise between them and the trailing teams.

Puck drop for tonight is 7 p.m. at the CN Community Centre in Melville. Listen to the game with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast on CJNB/CJNS. Ultra Print pregame show starts at 6:30 p.m.

Then on Friday and Saturday, puck drop for both games is 7:30 p.m. at the Access Communication Centre.
