‘It’s kind of surreal’: 2024 Great Escape awards trip to Mazatlán

Luck seems to be on Koreen Bauer’s side, finishing first among the 97 other finalists of the 2024 Great Escape.

By winning the ultimate prize of a free ticket to Mazatlán, she and her husband will have a ‘tropical’ winter this year.

This is not the first time Q98 radio has taken her to Mexico. During COVID-19 period, she also won a $5,000 voucher, which helped her to create a ‘special’ lifetime memory with her family.

“My sister actually showed up. The doorbell rang, and it was late at night, and [someone] said, ‘Housekeeping!’ and my sister surprised us. We won the trip, and my sister and her family surprised us and booked the same trip when we didn’t know about it,” she recalled.

Looking ahead, as the last time she went to Mazatlán was decades ago, she is excited to spend a sweet time with her husband in ‘The Pearl of the Pacific.’

“It’s kind of surreal that I won it twice.”

The moment she won.

The lively evening at the Tropical Inn in North Battleford took place on Friday night, brimming with entertaining games and prizes. Thanks to the dynamic hosting trio of Andy Cohen, Nic Fransoo, and Grant Schutte, the night was filled with laughter from start to finish.

Travel Escapes in Meadow Lake sponsored the trip. Alongside it, 27 other sponsors, including Elliott Insurance and Hawtin Plumbing Services, helped to make the 2024 Great Escape possible.

“It’s an exciting time to be here and watch the elimination, the winners, and the games. It’s just a fun event, and there’s lots of fun leading up to it, too,” said Debra Sheppard, owner of Travel Escapes.

One of the game is called “Blow Me Down.”
