Battlefords North Stars Preview

Nipawin game postponed, then North Stars visit Bruins for the first time

Nov 19, 2024 | 2:03 PM

The Battlefords North Stars got four points this past weekend and improved to 11-5-2-1 and third overall in the league after beating the Weyburn Red Wings in back-to-back games.

The North Stars now have a big week ahead of them as they make their way to Estevan on Friday and Saturday to face off against the Bruins or the first time this season. The North Stars were originally going to have a game against the Nipawin Hawks tonight in Nipawin but the game has been postponed to next Tuesday, November 26 due to severe weather.

Looking at Estevan, they hold a 5-9-2-1 record and are 10th overall in the league with 13 points, but they have had some big wins over Yorkton and Humboldt, along with two close games against Melfort recently.

With only five wins on the season, high point getters have been hard to come by for the Bruins, but it’s Kent Moors and Luke Hogan who have been the ones leading the charge in terms of goals. Moors has nine goals on the season which is tied for fourth overall in the league and Hogan currently has eight, tying him for fifth overall.

Another guy for the Bruins who has been noteworthy is Ewan Rennie. Rennie may only have one goal so far this season, but he has good vision and has been a great facilitator for the team currently with 14 assists.

For the North Stars, especially in the past few games, they have had great depth at scoring with 11 players in double digits points this season and it seems like anyone could be the star on any night. Their main goal scorers have been Braden Nienaber, Jackson Allan, Rylan Williams, Anthony Campbell, Nikita Ivashchenko and Elijah Anderson, but right now it seems like any of their top 15 skaters could be the difference maker.

Justen Maric has also been a huge reason for the teams most recent success and if he continues with how he is playing, the team has nothing to worry about in between the pipes. Maric was also named the SJHL MVP of the week with a 3.00 GAA and .931 SV% in two wins against Weyburn this past weekend.

Both Friday and Saturday’s games this week are 7:00 p.m. puck drop at Affinity Place in Estevan. Listen to both games on CJNB/CJNS with the Napa Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast, Ultra Print pregame show starts at 6:30 p.m.
