There were eight teams from the Battlefords United Football Club (BUFC) in Prince Albert this past weekend for Melba Jenkins Memorial Cup and not only did they play great, but they took home some hardware too.

The U13 Boys went undefeated throughout the weekend, winning all four of their games to win Division 2 and take home the gold, while getting 21 goals for and only allowing 8 goals against.

The U13 Girls also had a great showing as they went undefeated too, getting the victory in all four of their games to hoist the trophy for Division 2.

Both U11 Boys teams had an outstandings weekend as they also went undefeated, winning three games and losing none.

For the U11 Girls, they played hard all weekend, grabbing one win and two losses but they saw some huge improvements since the last time they were in the tournament.

There were also two U9 Boys teams that were at the tournament as well. Both of them did really good and played their hearts out, getting one win and two losses each.

Then for the U9 Girls, they had no substitutions all weekend and still ended up winning one game out of three and had a great time at the tournament.

“This is our third year attending the Melba Jenkins Memorial Cup…it’s always our first tournament of the season and this is the best that we have showcased our athletes in this tournament, so it was fantastic. It was really awesome to see our athletes work very hard and represent themselves and our club in a very competitive environment. There were very many ear-to-ear grins for our athletes of all our ages. For most of the U9’s, this was the first tournament they’ve ever been to, and they had a great time, they could not have been happier and we are just so proud of them.” said Technical Director of the BUFC, Kat Huxley.

The next tournament for the BUFC will be the Aurora Tournament in Saskatoon that takes places November 22nd to 24th and they will have four teams attending.
