Local judokas bring home hardware from Manitoba
Three judo athletes from the Battlefords Judo Club were in Winnipeg this past weekend for the Manitoba Open Judo competition. Ridley Suberlak, Silvan Raess and Corsin Raess all took part in the event and not only that, placed near the top in their division.
Ridley was in U18 Male +90Kg Division and got second overall, Silvan was in the U14 Male Advanced –35Kg Division and grabbed the silver medal and Corsin was in the U16 Male Advanced Division and placed fifth overall.
Coach and head instructor at Battlefords Judo Club, Curtis Suberlak was very impressed with the athletes and said it was a great weekend for development.
“Silvan had nice gains, he went one win with two losses and ended up with a silver medal, which is very good. Corsin had one win and two losses as well to be in fifth place, which is a nice gain for him. Ridley had one competitor in his division and was ahead in his first match and fought incredibly good but couldn’t take the win, so he got second. Overall, it was extremely good performances by all three of them and great development, so we’re very, very happy.”
