Restaurant owner vying for city council seat
North Battleford restaurant owner Mercy George is seeking a council seat with a vision of making the city safer and better.
“Mercy is eager to serve on the city council with a vision to reduce crime, support local businesses, and revitalize downtown North Battleford,” her online profile said.
George, the owner of Dejma’s Curry House, is originally from India. She spent her early life in Malaysia and then moved to Canada. She has called North Battleford home since 2004.
To demonstrate her dedication to the community, she has volunteered with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and raised funds for both Battlefords Union Hospital and the local food bank. George noted that her experience at the local ‘Taste of Culture’ event inspired her to open the curry house.
