Mustangs blank the North Stars

They played hard and fought till the very end but it was an unsuccessful night for the Battlefords North Stars as they lost 4-0 to the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort last night.

The game opened up just after the five minute mark in the first period with a goal from Nolan Patterson to give Melfort a 1-0 lead.

Despite outshooting the Mustangs 12 to seven in the first, the North Stars couldn’t find the back of net and the period went to the intermission.

For the second period, it was fairly even play from both sides as both teams were getting good shots and splitting offensive zone time. But it was Melfort who got the only goal of the period, coming from Zayden Sadlemyer right at the doorstep to take a 2-0 lead going into the third.

The North Stars came out with lots of momentum in the third and got some really good scoring chances to try and come back. Unfortunately, that still wasn’t enough as the Mustangs found another goal, this time from Logan Belton to take a 3-0 lead.

Melfort ended up finishing off the period with one more goal in the final minute from Bo Eisner to win the game 4-0.

The North Stars outshot the Mustangs 32 to 26, went 0/5 on the powerplay and stopped Melfort both times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric stopped 22 out of 26 shots in the loss.

Battlefords’ record now sits at 6-4-1 on the season.
