With a 4 -1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds Thursday night, the Battlefords North Stars swept the two-game series and now sit at the top of the Nutrien Division with a 6-3-1 record.

In the first period, the North Stars came out to a slower start than the night prior, but were still outplaying the Hounds.

The first and only goal of the period came from Braden Nienaber with just under two minutes left to give the North Stars a 1-0 lead.

For the second period, the North Stars continued to control the game, putting on tons of good shots while keeping the Hounds backed up in their own zone.

Battlefords was able to find the back of the net again during the second period, this time from Jackson Allan on a short handed breakaway, assisted by Treycen Wuttunee and Sebastian Miles to increase the lead to 2-0.

Notre Dame had a few good shot opportunities in the period but still had troubles lighting the lamp so the game went to the intermission with the North Stars leading by two.

During the third period, the Hounds found a little bit of momentum as they got their first goal of the game from Nick Beatty on a tipped shot from Liam Hunks, making it a 2-1 game.

That momentum didn’t last long though, as the North Stars continued to put on the pressure which forced the Hounds to take some penalties.

This resulted in two powerplay goals for the North Stars, coming from Rylan Williams and Jordan Grill to give Battlefords a 4-1 lead.

The Hounds tried to fight back and even the score but it was too late and they failed to find any more goals, giving Battlefords the 4-1 win.

The North Stars outshot the Hounds 37 to 25, went 2/6 on the powerplay and stopped Notre Dame both times on the penalty kill.

Justen Maric had another good game, stopping 24/25 shots in the win.

The North Stars next game is this Tuesday, Oct. 22 against the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
