Red Pheasant woman dead after serious injury in NB

A 63-year-old woman from Red Pheasant Cree Nation has died after being taken to hospital Wednesday morning.

Battlefords RCMP responded to a report of a seriously injured woman outside a business on the 900 block of 101st Street in North Battleford. She was taken to hospital and was later declared deceased.

She has been identified as Pearl Benson, and her family has been notified.

Police said in a release that Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes is continuing to investigate and that residents can expect an increased police presence in the area.
